SOW AR is a geospatial augmented reality (AR) application that features a large female pig (SOW) appearing in six specific locations in England. All these locations are linked to industrial pork production across England. SOW is a symbol of protest and resistance. Similar to the industrial meat industry, SOW is only visible if you choose to look…

Use the app to interact with digital sculptures that expose the UK’s industrial pork supply chain and learn more about how industrial pig farming works in the UK.

How to use the App

You can see SOW in the locations listed in the ‘locations’ menu.

  1. Click on the blue button with the name of the location you are at.

  2. Make sure you are in the right place by checking the location instructions.

  3. Use your back camera and point it towards the building. Slowly pan left and right around the building to calibrate the app.

  4. Take screenshots and screen recordings of SOW and share them online using the hashtag #bigpig, tag @GreenpeaceUK on Twitter or Instagram or send them to sow@nahomatsuda.com.

Note: Always look out for traffic and stand in pedestrian areas.

When you load the AR mode it might take a few seconds to recognise the environment. Move your phone camera slowly from side to side and point toward the building where the pig is shown in the location instructions. Repeat until the pig appears.
